Basilio Astúlez (Spain)

 

Born in 1975, he holds a degree in Fine Arts from the University of the Basque Country, and carries out musical studies at Victoria-Gasteiz.

He founded the female chamber group Vocalia Taldea, holding the Grand Prix National of Choral singing 2001, as well as other major international prizes.
He works as a professor of choral singing at the Municipal Conservatory of Leioa, taking over the leadership of the San Juan Bautista Choral, and creates the Leioa Kantika Korala Choir. In 2008 he was awarded the special prize for best conductor at the 47th International Competition CA Seguizzi in Gorizia, Italy.

In 2009 he also received the special prize for best conductor at the 38th Florilège Vocal de Tours in France for his work as head of Vocalia Taldea.
He teaches at the Municipal Conservatory of Leioa, Biscay, where intensively works for the promotion of child and youth choral singing. Leading their choirs Kantika Korala, La Kantoria and SJB, he has received numerous awards and recognitions that make his choral school a benchmark of the current music scene.
