Johan Duijck  (Belgium)

 

He was born in 1954 in Ghent, Belgium, and is a versatile musician: choir conductor, composer, pianist and pedagogue. He is internationally recognized as the conductor of the Radio Choir of Flanders, the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields Chorus (London), the World Youth Choir and Madrigal Choir of Ghent.

In the educational field Johan Duijck also enjoys an outstanding reputation. He teaches piano at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent (B) and he is professor of choral conducting at the Higher School of Music of Catalonia in Barcelona (E). He has taught arts education in piano and choral conducting at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel (B), the Dartington International Summer School (GB) and Euskalerriko Abesbatzen Elkartea (E). His principal teachers were Peter Cabus (composition), Robert Steyaert (piano) and László Heltay (conduction).
Flemish Radio and Television have made an intimate documentary about the figure of Johan Duijck, friendship and the music, in which are shown the different aspects of his multifaceted musical life.
