The Male Choir Gamlir Fostbraedur – Islandia
The Male Choir Gamlir Fostbraedur is one of the most prominent male choirs in Iceland, with 100 years of uninterrupted activity since its founding in 1916.
The country has a strong choral tradition, and critics agree that Fostbraedur is one of the groups with the best level all around Iceland.
Offering many concerts per year in Reykjavik and other nearby towns, it has also performed in several European settings and North America.
Throughout its career, it has completed a series of recordings for the Icelandic radio and television.
It has also given concerts with the Symphony Orchestra and the Icelandic Opera, including works by Shostakovich and Stravinsky among others.
The group has been awarded the 2nd prize at the International Choir Competition in Llangollen (Wales), the 3rd prize at the International Competition of Choirs in Linderholzhausen – (Germany), and the gold prize at the International Competition of Sacred Music in Prague (Czech Republic).
